Cool your heels in a guided stroll through the hidden world of Salem Creek. We’ll watch for birds, fish, and vegetation along the stream, and play a stream scavenger hunt. At our destination, you can explore a floodplain model that presents different stormwater and flooding scenarios. You can also look for macroinvertebrates—dragonfly larvae, crayfish, and other water critters—and see how they relate to water quality.
This event is geared to families with kids from age 5 up (parents, use your best judgment with younger kids). Closed-toe shoes or water sandals—no open-toed sandals or bare feet!
Thanks to Dan Tomczak of the NC Association of Floodplain Managers, who will present the floodplain model, and to Phyllis Smith of Forsyth Extension, who will lead the macroinvertebrate hunt.
