A hawk soaring overhead, a monarch butterfly emerging from a chrysalis, or a bee nuzzling a flower: each is an awe-inspiring experience. Research shows how experiences like these help us–especially children–to appreciate how important it is to protect habitat and species diversity.
Gateway Nature Preserve offers a variety of educational programs and resources for families and children to do on their own, as well as resources for teachers and youth groups. Check out our events to learn more!

The ecoEXPLORE program combines science exploration with kid-friendly technology to foster a fun learning environment for children while encouraging them to explore the outdoors and participate in citizen science.
The Forsyth County Central Library at 660 W. Fifth Street is now an ecoEXPLORE LoanSpot! The Children’s Section has Discovery Packs that caregivers of children in grades K-8 can check out with a library card.
Each Discovery Pack includes the following items: a wildlife camera, a butterfly net, a bird call, binoculars, a magnifying glass, and bug binoculars. Access to this equipment gives children and teens the tools to learn more about nature.
If they sign up to participate in ecoEXPLORE, they can also earn points to win prizes such as nature study gear, trail cameras, and iPod touch units.
